To help clients effectively prevent the risk of credit card skimming both at home and abroad, ICBC lately launched the safety lock service for credit card accounts. The service allows clients to set the safety lock of their credit card accounts in a personalized manner in multiple trading scenarios (such as domestic, overseas, online, offline and nighttime) through the Bank’s e-Life and mobile banking APPs, so as to prevent the risk of card skimming.

The above mentioned safety lock is said to be a new anti-fraud technology independently developed by ICBC, which aims to help clients prevent the card skimming risk in an all-round manner by using five locks (i.e.: “overseas lock”, “regional lock”, “nighttime lock”, “overseas cardless payment lock” and “limit lock”). For example, after a client enables the “overseas lock”, it will stop cash withdrawal from ATMs or card swipe at POSs in places other than the foreign countries or regions where the card is often used; after the “regional lock” is enabled, it will stop cash withdrawal from ATMs or card swipe at POSs in Chinese cities other than those where the card is often used; after the “nighttime lock” is enabled, it will stop cash withdrawal from ATMs or card swipe at POSs from 23:00 to 5:00 (Beijing Time) in China; after the “overseas cardless payment lock” is enabled, the overseas cardless trading function will be suspended; after the “limit lock” is enabled, transactions will halt when the consumption amount exceeds the limit specified for POS consumption.

The responsible person of the ICBC Credit Card Center said that clients could set the safety lock function for the accounts of all credit cards and supplementary cards opened for other people under their names. Meanwhile, clients can enjoy convenient and flexible credit card risk control experiences through functional settings such as mobile self-service locking, online one-key unlocking, real-time SMS notification of trading halt, and unlocking by replying SMS.
